Obituary for Murrell Trotter
Henry Murrell Trotter, age 78, departed this life at his home on March 10th, 2017. He was surrounded by his family and friends in his beloved sunroom which he built. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 12th, 2017 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and from 11 a.m. to the time of service at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 13th, 2017 at New Providence United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest in the Marion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Murrell was born March 1st, 1939 in Slayden, Tennessee. He was a son of the late Herbert and Lula Rachel Potts Trotter. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired Civil Service employee from the Fort Campbell Post Engineer's Office. In addition to his parents Murrell was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas Robert "T.R." (Naomi) Trotter, Russell Trotter, and Carl Vernon "High-Head" (Maurine) Trotter; and sisters, Clorene (James) Robertson and Lorene Trotter.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nell Trotter; daughter Maribeth Trotter (Bob) Belvin, and son Brian (Pamela) Trotter; and five grandchildren: Garrett Belvin, Elizabeth Belvin, Hunter Belvin, Jackson Trotter, and Samantha Trotter, brothers; Jerry Trotter and Earl Trotter.
Murrell was a master carpenter and enjoyed woodworking and spending time in his shop. He also was a faithful member of the New Providence United Methodist Church and the Koinonia Sunday School Class. He loved to spoil his grandchildren, which included letting them ride in the front seat of his truck and taking them to McDonald's. He was frequently seen at the grandchildren's dance and piano recitals and sporting events, most often carrying everyone's coats. He enjoyed the outdoors, from hunting and fishing to cutting the yard. The largest deer he ever harvested was the one he struck with his truck while taking his grandson hunting. He especially enjoyed fishing, as long as the weather was perfect and it wasn't a holiday weekend.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Robertson, Jackson Trotter, Garrett Belvin, Hunter Belvin, Mutt Trotter, Ryan Ferrell, Jason Edmonds, and Bruce "Booty" Trotter.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation or the New Providence United Methodist Church Capital Campaign. The family also wants to say a special "Thank You" to Oasis In-Home Care, AseraCare Hospice, Pat and Jennifer Cook, and the countless friends and family that helped all of us through this difficult time.
